In a slight predicament that looks to put the new car search on hold. Instead leaning towards being more responsible and getting my own apartment. I could go with cheaper apartment options which would net me an additional $300 +/- in car note money but that would also deny certain amenities I’m looking for, namely a balcony and on site laundry. Looking like the Protege shall have to live on as my sole transportation for a while longer. :-(

Meh, you can read about others having awesome cars, and find enjoyment, but you cant read about the living conveniences that you dont have and still be happy.

The silver lining is that proper adulting means you’ll never have to worry about your car getting repo’d!

If you can hold off until you go full time/permanent at the new job, try not to change your living situation. If not, then get a decent place to live. It’s better to drive a beater a while and spend money on living accommodations than cheap out on home to have a better car.

Just speaking from my own mistakes. Take it as you will.

Balance. Don’t end up in apartment you hate. My apartment is $1000/mo, but is in central Tokyo, new building, digital everything, first tenant, top floor, next to two small parks and across the street from a major one, next to a hospital, and a few blocks from the city office, post office, grocery store, and three train stations. If I have to live in Tokyo, I couldn’t change much. So I had to bite the expense bullet. I cut elsewhere.

I’ve been living with my parents since July and it sucks, I’d get a nice place to live. Worry about the car later. Unless your car is on it’s last legs, and if you need it, then car before apartment.

You’re making the right choice. No sense in riding around in a nice car if you have to drive home to a place you resent.

When I moved last year I took the nicest apartment that I could find/afford. Sure it cuts into my car fund, but how much time do you spend in your car vs. at home?

Isn’t 1K still kind of a good deal for such a major city, and especially the location/amenities? I know a guy who pays 2k for what basically is a fancy walk-in closet in Chicago. And even in Munich you are starting to get into trouble if you want nice and central under 1k.

Yeah that sounds pretty damn good for Toyko. For comparison, I live in the bay area and pay $1300/mo for a room in a house (I have 1 roommate and we split our usage on the third room as a guest room).

I’m full time now. But instead of saving for a down payment on a car I’m saving for an apartment instead. Trying to move in and have a at least have a little furniture come in the same weekend.

Nope car still riding great. No issues. Might shoot my sights down the road for a car. Probably make it a Christmas gift to myself.

Dude. Spend money on the housing. If not you’ll hate it in a year and move, then you’ll have to sell the car you can’t afford and it snowballs from there.
